Alliance Energy Corp., which operates in four New England states, acquired 23 stores from Brunswick, Maine-based Down East Energy. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The stores, all branded Puffin Stop, increase Alliance Energy's c-store count to 148. All of the units, which average approximately 2,400 square feet, sell fuel under the Citgo, Exxon and Mobil brands. The majority of stores are in Maine, with just one in New Hampshire.
Alliance said it expects to keep all 200 Puffin Stop store employees.
Although family-owned Down East Energy decided to get out of the retail marketing business, it will retain its heating oil and building supply divisions, according to company President Robert Morrell.
