ACT Opens Distribution Center

MONTREAL -- Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. today hosted the grand opening of its Laval, Quebec-based distribution center.

The project, announced almost two years ago, is expected to reduce distribution costs ? including warehousing, handling and delivery costs -- while enhancing the productivity and efficiency of the company's network of locations in eastern Canada.

The distribution center will also facilitate the company's "Strategy 2000" micromarket approach to store merchandising and management. The initiative has been credited with spearheading double-digit same-store sales growth at many of the chain's Canadian locations.

Chainwide, same-store sales grew at an impressive average of 8.8 percent during the first 40 weeks of Couche-Tard's fiscal year, the company said in a statement.
