7-Eleven Reports Strong August

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. today reported total sales for August 2003of $1 billion, an increase of 9.9 percent over the August 2002 total of $948.2million. Total merchandise sales for the month reached $724.1million, an increase of 6 percent over the August 2002 total of $683.2million.

U.S. same-store merchandise sales in August for the Dallas-based operator of more than 5,800 convenience stores, increased 4.5 percent, on top of a 3.5 percent increase in August2002, the company said.

Gasoline sales for August 2003 were $318 million, a 20 percent increase compared to $265 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 4.2 percent last month compared to the August 2002 result. The average retail price of gasoline for August 2003 was $1.66, compared to $1.44 in August 2002.

7-Eleven's year-to-date results include:
* U.S. same-store merchandise sales have increased 3.6 percent, on top of a 3.1 percent increase for 2002.
* Merchandise sales are $5.1billion, an increase of 5.2 percent.
* Gasoline sales total $2.3 billion, an increase of 24.1 percent.
* Average gallons sold per store have increased 4.8 percent.
