7-Eleven Opens Airport Store

EDMONTON, Alberta - In an effort to serve an estimated 4 million travelers and 2,800 employees at the Edmonton International Airport, Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc. announced plans yesterday to open its first airport location in July.

Long dominated by newsstands and international retailers such as W.H. Smith Retail Ltd., airports are now viewed as a potential avenue of growth for companies such as 7-Eleven and Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc..

The 3,000 square foot c-store will operate 24 hours per day and will also offer gasoline for rushed travelers.
