7-Eleven Expands Hot Foods Program

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- 7-Eleven Inc. is rolling out a new hot foods merchandising program to additional locations, Supermarket News reported, citing comments made by Dennis Phelps, the c-store chain’s vice president of fresh foods, during an educational session at GMA's Merchandising, Sales and Marketing conference.

"We'll have another 600 stores converted by the end of the year, and 2,000 by the end of next year," Phelps said. Pizzas prepared in-store are the third fastest-moving SKU in the converted stores, exceeding sales of cigarettes and certain cups of coffee, he noted.

The hot foods program, which launched as a pilot in March in approximately 100 Chesapeake, Va. area stores, offers shoppers a menu of hot foods including pizza, chicken wings, chicken tenders, Jamaican beef patties and cinnamon churros. Most of the items are prepared using high-speed TurboChef ovens, according to previous reports.

"The sections give us the ability to sell pizza in 90 seconds and toasted sandwiches in 45 seconds," Phelps said during his presentation at the GMA conference this week.
