7-Eleven Customers Cast Presidential Votes via Coffee Cups

MONSEY, N.Y. -- The next U.S. presidential election won't take place until November, but 7-Eleven customers can cast 'votes' by choosing red Romney cups or blue Obama cups when purchasing coffee through the nationwide 7-Election program, according to a Journal News report. Neutral cups are also available.

The program, which tracks results through barcode scans, reportedly accurate predicted results for the past four presidential elections, and a similar "Every Gulp Counts" program correctly predicted Benigno Aquino's victory in the 2010 Philippines presidential election.

"It can make for some lively conversations in the store, but no significant issues so far," 7-Eleven spokesman Scott Drake said.

The Dallas-based chain will launch an election page on 7-eleven.com in a few weeks where consumers can follow the cup tally.
