7-Eleven Adds New Candy Line, Ice Cream Bar

DALLAS -- On the heels of entering the hot chicken sandwich market, 7-Eleven Inc., based here, is unveiling a new line of candy and a gourmet ice cream bar.

The chain will soon offer a line of packaged candy by Sweet Factory, the national bulk candy retailer. The new proprietary line will include Sour Madness Mini Green Apples and Chocolatey Covered Gummi Bears, which will be sold nationwide in 7-Eleven stores.

"There is tremendous growth opportunity in Sweet Factory's high-quality products in venues such as supermarkets and convenience stores," said James Walker, president of Sweet Factory, Anaheim, Calif.

The national bulk candy retailer said today's consumers understand the brand and often look to purchase a number of hard-to-find candies, only to find they aren't available. "By bringing Sweet Factory to these stores, we are providing consumers easy access to the most popular items to the marketplace in a prepackaged format," Walker said.

Also, 7-Eleven is adding SheerBliss Ice Cream Bars to more than 800 7-Eleven stores this September. Primarily in Northeast locations, the gourmet ice cream bar is sold in single-serve boxes and features pomegranate ice cream dipped in a rich dark chocolate coating.

Based in Dallas, 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 7,200 7-Eleven stores in North America. Globally, 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses some 32,800 stores in 17 countries and one U.S. territory. During 2006, 7-Eleven stores worldwide generated total sales of more than $44 billion.
